Daadi goes live – social ancestry for South Asia is here!

28 08 2012

Over the last four months I’ve been building a social ancestry website and the beta is now live!

whosthedaadi.com is the brain-child of Saima Mir, an award winning Guardian and BBC journalist. The issue we wanted to address was that census data doesn’t exist for the majority of the world’s population. In places like India, where partition led to huge disruption of families followed by many leaving for the UK and other parts of the world, the ability to trace your family lineage is hampered by a lack of census data and the difficulty of collaborating on family tree projects from all corners of the globe. whosthedaadi.com hopes to change that by providing free, family tree making tools to the world.

The beta is now live and anyone is free to set up an account and start building a family tree. The site is targeted principally at the Asian community.
